FAQs
Answers to the most common questions I receive via email and feedback
Q: What inspires your paintings?
A: Things that inspire me are many and varied but I strive to make my work tell a story, some subtle wit and often an often a social message underpinning everything
Q: How would you describe your style of art?
A: My paintings usually have a story behind them which, because of my background in graphic design, I tend to tell in the details. I wouldn't say I'm a 'broad brush abstract artist' but my work has a randomness, spontaneity and fluidity that develops as the theme for the painting evolves. Basically all this is wrapped up in acrylic, mixed media, collage, stencilling and any other mark making tools I can lay my hands on!
Q: Do you work from ideas, emotions, or pure abstraction?
A: Ideas definately. I always have a loose idea for a painting in my mind when i approach the canvas (Im not one of those YouTube artists that just make art in five minutes in the most haphazard way) but often that changes as the work progresses so I guess you could say there's an element of pure abstraction in there banging of the door to be let out.
A: All pieces here are one-off original works, signed and authenticated by the artist. I'm very sorry, but at this time I do not offer a print service, but this may be something that I will set up in the future
A: I have so many great materials on my 'palette' and obviously depends on the direction the painting takes. I use mainly Acrylics and multi layered collage, stencilling, linocut blocks, inks, chalk and oil pastels, acrylic spray paints, gold and silver gilding foils, crayons, and marker pens to name but a few.
Q: How do you set a price for your paintings?
A: As this started as a lifelong hobby that I’m only now doing full-time, my pricing is simple. It really comes down to the cost of materials and a modest fee that represents the time I’ve taken to produce each piece and the place I am on my in my journey. I always charge packing and shipping at cost and make no profit from this. As a fledgling (professional) artist, I feel my pricing fairly reflects this.
Q: Are you open to offers for each piece?
A: Yes absolutely. I feel it would be unreasonable not to be. All I would ask is that offers are sensible and respectful of the amount of time and effort involved in producing the painting.
Q: Do you offer payment plans or deposits to reserve a piece?
A: At the moment all transactions are completed via PayPal who offer different types of finance and staged payments. They are also associated with Klarna which gives even more options. I am happy to take a deposit of 25% of the purchase price to secure any painting.
Q: Do you guarantee your work?
A: Yes within reason. I offer a 30 day 'cooling off' period (although for unframed works only. If framed unfortunately I am unable to cover that cost).
A: I will do all I can to help you make the right choice and I offer a room mock up service to see my work in your space. I also offer a 30 day change of heart policy if you really feel the love affair is not working for you.
Q: How is the artwork packaged and shipped?
A: Like I'm shipping the most precious cargo! I don't want my original work damaged any more than you do. All corners are fully covered and supported, the back of the painting is reinforced during transit to stop it flexing and then the whole thing is placed in a rigid outer, triple ply corrugated box with expanding foam filler to lock it in place and shipped by insured courier (various shipping couriers are available. Please do ask for a cost comparison)
A: At the moment I just ship to the UK, Ireland and most countries in the EU. I'm planning to ship to the US in the near future (if the madness ever stops). Please ping me an email for more details
Q: Can I collect from your studio?
A: Of course. No problem. I am in the UK, in the south west near Bristol. See 'Getting in Touch' section above for a convenient Google map.
Q: Are your paintings ready to hang?
A: All my pieces come with various fixing methods and handing wires as standard and are priced and supplied unframed. I can arrange framing and am happy to provide you with a quote before you commit to purchasing.
Q: Do you take commissions or create custom pieces?
A: I’m always delighted to discuss commissions and bespoke art projects. Whether you’re looking for a statement piece for your home, a large-scale work for a corporate or public space, or something created to mark a personal story or memory, I approach each commission as a true collaboration.
